Engine Room Assistant

Location: Seagoing

Engine Room Assistant - Permanent - Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engine Room Assistant to work on Condor’s fast craft ferries, on a permanent contract.    

The duties of the E.R.A. are to assist the Assistant Engineer with maintenance work and regular tasks during the day to keep the vessel operational as well as in a good and tidy order.  In most instances the E.R.A. will be working with the Assistant Engineer but will operate without supervision when involved in regular routine work. 

Key Responsibilities will include: 

·         Checking oil and coolant levels in machinery and equipment.

·         Checking through “Start Up” check list.

·         Assist Fuelling and bunkering in accordance with specification.

·         Assist with starting main engines and dealing with any problems that may arise.

·         Check all machinery spaces during passage and report any noticeable defects to Chief Engineer.

·         Assist Assistant Engineer during stopovers with maintenance/repairs etc.

·         Assist with shutting down vessel as instructed. Working in/with other departments as part of a team.

·         Bilge pumping in accordance with S.O.P.E.P. regulations - on board and ashore.

·         Keeping machinery spaces in a clean working environment.

Previous experience working in a similar role and with high speed ferries is desirable, and the ideal candidate will have, or be working towards their STCW courses. 

All candidates must have, or be able to obtain a valid ENG1.

Ship Manager

Location:

 

Permanent – Full time                                  

We have an exciting opportunity for a Ship Manager to work on both Condor Rapide, and within Condor House, Poole on a permanent contract.  

The Ship Manager will work very closely with the Ship’s Executive Team to ensure the ship is kept technically safe, legally compliant, reliable and comfortable, as well as meeting the expectations of all stakeholders. 

As the main point of contact for the ships, maintaining key relationships across the business is vital, including all Masters, Chief Engineers, IT Department, Health and Safety officers and the Port Staff.

The Ship Manager will lead the vessel’s engineering crews and provide project management support to the ship’s executive team and will manage all contracts, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers to ensure all planned tasks and defects are correctly resourced to the right quality standard. The Ship Manager will also control allocated budgets, conduct informal audits, maintain the ship’s asset register, produce risk assessments, and oversee dry dock and refit.

The successful applicant will have previous experience in a senior engineering role, will be expected to manage an engineering crew, have knowledge of basic accounting skills and hold a STCW (95) 111/2 Engineering Motor unrestricted or equivalent.

The ability to handle difficult and stressful situations, with good negotiating skills and excellent communication will be an essential requirement of this role.
