Booking the right trailer type
We’ve simplified our trailer options to make it easier for you to book online.
We offer special leisure trailer rates when the same item is carried on the outward and return journeys, but when the trailer is laden one way and not the other, freight rates will apply.
If you’re not sure your trailer is covered by one of these, call 0345 609 1024 before you book. Measure the length of the trailer, from the start of the tow ball to the very back of the trailer (or any item protruding from the back of the trailer), and the maximum height from the ground, of the trailer and contents, and we’ll help with your booking.
Longer trailers
Trailers and horseboxes that are longer than 10m can be booked with a small supplement, but not online. For more information contact our contact centre or port staff.
We regularly transport trailers of all kinds, including:
Baggage and camping trailers
Baggage trailers up to 1.85m in length and up to 1.85m high, maximum weight up to 500kg. Camping trailers up to 4m in length and up to 1.85m high, maximum weight up to 1000kg.
Speedboat and motorboat trailers
A speedboat trailer would typically be used to transport a ski/wake boat type vessel, and a motorboat trailer fishing, small pleasure boat or rib. A jetski or wetbike on a trailer should be booked as a motorbike trailer. For both categories the maximum gross laden weight on a single axle trailer is 2 tonnes and on a double axel trailer 3.5 tonnes with an overall maximum trailer length of 6.5m.
Dinghy trailers
Dinghy trailers would transport a light sailing dinghy or multihulls, with no outboard or inboard engine. The laden trailer width should not exceed that of the car, and the standard length is 5.5m. Longer trailers up to a maximum of 6.5m maximum can be booked for a small supplement. Maximum gross laden weight is 750kg and the maximum height is 3.1m including any protruding items eg masts.
