Each September, a group of Royal Navy personnel from RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall returns to commemorate the sinking of HMS Limbourne and HMS Charybdis during the Second World War.
Around 500 sailors lost their lives and 21 sailors were laid to rest on the Island with full military honours. Guernsey has held a memorial service every year since 1947.
This year’s visit included a dinner, two football matches against Guernsey representative teams, including the Malaya Cup and the annual memorial service at Le Foulon Cemetery.
The trip is organised in partnership with the Guernsey Association of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and the Merchant Navy.
We are proud to support this yearly visit and the Island’s long-standing tradition of remembrance.
