We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when visiting Guernsey for any potential medical or healthcare costs incurred while visiting. Ensure you research and choose the best travel insurance provider for your requirements.
Guernsey is not covered by the NHS, however there is a reciprocal health agreement (RHA) between Guernsey and the UK.
The RHA allows any necessary urgent healthcare, which cannot wait for the patients’ return to the UK, to be provided. It does not cover repatriation, or routine care for pre-existing conditions. Visitors from the UK should ensure they bring their GHIC/EHIC card.
If UK residents do require any medical assistance, they must use a recognised provider from the list provided here. If not, then you will be required to pay the full cost of any treatment required. For full details please visit gov.gg/rha.
If you need an ambulance when visiting Guernsey, there will be a fee payable. Ambulance services are provided by St John, a charity organisation and relies on donations and subscriptions from islanders. If you don’t have a subscription or insurance to cover assistance, you will need to pay for any charges incurred. For more information please visit:

When you’re on holiday in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man, you won’t be covered by the NHS or the EHIC.
But there is a Reciprocal Healthcare Agreement in place between the UK, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
