Cafe Assistant

Location: Guernsey

We have a seasonal opportunity for a full time Café Assistant to work in our Café and Snack Bar, situated at the Guernsey Ferry terminal.   

The café is open seven days a week, and operates between the hours of 07:00 and 21:00, (dependent on ship sailing times), so there will be a requirement to work shifts which may include weekends and Bank holidays.

We are looking for applicants who must have previous experience of working within a café environment, have excellent customer service skills, and preferably possess Food Hygiene certification.

This role is for 40 hours per week on a Fixed Term contract based in Guernsey.  

Applicants must have a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance – a uniform will be provided.

Passenger Services Agent

Location: Poole

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Part Time, Passenger Services Agent to join us at Condor Ferries on a fixed term contract until 31 October 2017. Passenger Services Agent, reporting to the Port Manager. The purpose of the role is to provide excellent customer service to all passengers travelling with Condor Ferries and to ensure best working practices are adhered to at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure best working practice, processes and procedures are followed, paying particular attention to company health and safety regulations

  • Ensure correct COSHH and safe working practices are adhered to

  • Liaise with the duty Port Services Manager on a daily basis and highlight any H&S issues

  • Be fully aware of port and terminal emergency procedures

  • Provide a high level of customer service in accordance with Condor Ferries standards.

  • Assist in the checking-in, marshalling and loading and unloading, collection of passengers, vehicles and freight/goods to and from all company vessels

  • Assist in the preparation and completion of all paperwork and administrative procedures relating to all vehicle, passenger, freight and vessel movements

  • Undertake the efficient over the counter bookings and enquiries

  • Provide the smooth and efficient processing of all basic reservations promoting all company products and services

  • Assist in achieving targets and standards as set down by the Ports and Operations Management team

  • Be competent in cash and till handling procedures

  • Receive payment for the carriage of freight, goods, passengers and their vehicles ensuring that all payments are reconciled accurately.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including good grammar and punctuation skills, along with good interpersonal skills, you must also be a good listener and able to empathise, and be able to manage a busy work load.  

Training for this role will commence on 20 March 2017 and therefore applicants must ensure they would be available to commence employment if successful on this date.

Fleet Engineering Placement

Location: Poole

Placement to commence 1st of July 2017                               

Placement Duration:   12 Months

Disciplines accepted:
A predicted 2:1 degree (minimum) in either a BEng, MEng or MSc
            - Mechanical Engineering
            - Naval Architecture / Marine Technology

The role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual wishing to gain work experience in the marine industry. In addition to the technical analyst role, the chosen candidate will gain first-hand experience of working with and around experienced Marine Engineers, both in the Fleet Engineering office and onboard (through exposure to yearly ship dry-docks). This experience will provide a good foundation for any candidate interested in pursuing a career as an engineer and/or within the marine industry.

Why a placement year with Condor Marine Services?

You will be employed as a full time Engineer within the Fleet and Asset Team. Students aren’t taken on as an extra resource; they are needed to fulfil the role of an engineer, monitoring and analysing our assets using current data. Your work will be interesting, relevant to your studies and give you a greater understanding of the engineering industry.

As part of your responsibilities you will be required to communicate with external suppliers as well as other departments within the company, promoting effective and timely communication and teamwork.

There will be a mixture of office based analyst work, project work, sailings on the vessels and visits to the dry dock. This will incorporate the maintenance and upgrades of all the vessels

Freight Operations Clerk

Location: Guernsey

We are looking for a Freight Operations Clerk to be based in Guernsey, reporting to the Freight Manager.

This role will assist in completion of the Freight movements within the Port of Guernsey, including manifesting, control of the loading and discharge processes, and carrying out inspections of trailers and freight vehicles.

This is a varied role combining office duties and activities in and around the Port. This is a Customer facing role with a strong focus on providing a high quality of service for our clients.

To apply for this role you must have experience of using Microsoft Office packages and the ability to pick up new IT systems quickly. You must have an excellent level of customer service skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to adapt quickly within a fast paced environment.

This role also requires a high level of initiative, strong problem solving, and the ability to remain level headed and calm in a sometimes hectic environment.

Warehouse Agents

Location: Poole

We are currently recruiting seasonal Warehouse Agents on days shifts and night shifts to be based in Poole. 

The purpose of this role is to ensure the safe and efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of goods in a timely manner and in accordance with all relevant HMRC legislation and Company procedures, and to maintain the working safety culture throughout the warehouse operation. Also to ensure the timely operation of all daily warehouse functions ensuring the warehouse meets and exceeds company expectations.

The successful applicant would be expected to hold a full Driving Licence and ideally have previous warehouse experience and hold a valid counter balance a reach licence.

The Warehouse Agent will be based in Poole, reporting to the Warehouse Manager. The role is contracted to 40 hours per week, working 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off including weekends and bank holidays, on a seasonal contract until 31 October 2017.
