Fish for supper

Fancy landing a sea bass and barbecuing it for dinner? Or flowing with the tide waiting for a bream to bite? You’ll find a host of species to catch in Jersey, whether you’re boat fishing, beach casting or angling.

Freshwater fishing

While there are no rivers in Jersey and scarcely any streams, stretches of still water hold surprisingly good stocks of fish, making freshwater fishing extremely popular across the island. For trout fishing head to Val de la Mare, Grands Vaux and Queen’s Valley reservoirs, which are fly-only waters well stocked with rainbows and browns. The season runs from mid-April to the end of October, with day and weekly tickets available at all locations.

Coarse fishing

Coarse anglers are able to fish at Dannemarche and Millbrook Reservoirs in Waterworks Valley, St Catherine’s reservoir at the edge of Rozel Woods, and the South Canal near St Ouen’s Bay. There are no pike, catfish, zander or other large predators but you will find plenty of stocks of bream, tench, roach, perch, common carp, rudd and common eels. The season runs from 1 June to 31 March, and day or weekly tickets are available.
