A bracing country walk that ends in a country pub is always an excellent plan, particularly in autumn or winter. So, in the seasons where all you want to do is find a roaring log fire, a pint of ale and some hearty comfort food, we've selected six of our favourite Jersey country pub hideaways for you to try.

St Mary’s Country Inn, La Rue des Buttes, St Mary

For that countryside charm, check out St Mary’s Country Inn. Quaint and quintessentially British, this is a perfect retreat with a menu offering imaginative food at reasonable prices, including traditional favourites, grills, espetadas and scrummy puddings! They have an extensive wine list, including half-litre carafes or by the glass. If wine’s not your thing, try a pint from the great range of continental lagers, the locally brewed Mary Ann beers or the cask conditioned, award-winning Liberation Ale.

The Priory Inn, La Grande Rue, St Mary 

Take a visit to one of the oldest pubs in Jersey, The Priory Inn. Situated on the north coast, it is just five minutes’ walk from the historic ‘Devil’s Hole’. This country pub with its open log fire and original granite features, oozes rural charm and rustic character. Its picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring hearty, seasonal pub-food and carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines.

The Vic in the Valley, La Vallee de St Pierre, St Peter

For a royal getaway, visit The Vic in the Valley. Located in the stunning surroundings of St Peter’s Valley, it features two large bars and a sun terrace. It’s a favourite amongst the locals and is famous for its good quality and great value food, with locally brewed beers on tap.

The Old Smugglers Inn, La Mont Du Quasine, St Brelades

For that swashbuckling experience, The Smugglers Inn is your haunt! This pirate-themed pub is a 25-minute walk from St Brelade’s Bay. In the winter, cosy up to one of the two blazing log fires and enjoy the warmth the Smugglers has to offer. With its classic pub menu and friendly staff, it is the perfect place to have a relaxing meal or even just rest your tired legs after a coastal walk.
