With gorgeous coastline in all four compass directions, you'll never need to venture far to find a beautiful walk in Guernsey. The unexpected, must-see destination for your walking holidays list. Guernsey has an abundance of adventures to offer its guests, but it appears to be a well-kept secret so you might just find you have the place to yourself.

Its stunning cliff paths are dotted with the backdrop of medieval castles making this a walker’s paradise. With its rich heritage and quaint granite cottages nestled in relatively traffic-free country lanes, you’ll quickly immerse yourself in all the island has to offer.

The island plays host to many different walking experiences, Visit Guernsey has produced a series of Tasty Walks which will help you see the sights that are best explored on foot. Each walk includes many gastronomic delights to keep your energy levels high while you uncover the lush rolling hills and breath-taking views of this perfect island.

West coast

For gentle rambles, the west coast of Guernsey is perfect thanks to its easier terrain. Soak up the stretching views of the beautiful bays at Cobo, Vazon and L’Eree. One of the most popular walks on the west coast begins at Portelet and ends at L’eree This will take around 2 hours to complete and you’ll enjoy ancient fortifications and uninterrupted sandy beaches. Around the Pleinmont headland you’ll come across La Table Des Pions, known locally as the Fairy Ring, which is an ancient form of picnic table. This walk could lead on to Lihou Island depending on the tide times.

Lihou Island

A short but interesting walk, you’ll pass an abundance of flora and fauna even before arriving on the island itself. Make sure you dedicate time to explore dramatic rocky shores and to even take a dip in the Venus Pool. Lihou Island is accessible at low tide where the 750-metre-long causeway is revealed by the retreating ocean. Be sure to leave plenty of time to return over the causeway so you won’t get stuck there overnight!

St Saviour’s reservoir

Also referred to as the Millennium Walk, this inland walk will take you around the reservoir with views out past Mont Saint to the west coast. This island’s habitat is carefully managed and has become an important site for local nature conservation.

Saumarez park walk

This route takes you on a nature trail, through restored historic gardens and idyllic woodlands. The immaculate gardens and park play host to numerous events throughout the year. Continue on to the fortifications at The Guet for a spectacular view of Cobo Bay and beyond.

North coast

For an easy walk that’s suitable for all weather, start at Vale Castle and walk south to St Peter Port. En route you’ll be treated to scenic views across Belle Greve Bay to the neighbouring Herm and Sark – and on a clear day you will also catch glimpses of Jersey and France.

Walking Festivals

2019 will see the return of the popular Spring (25th May - 9th June) and Autumn (14th - 29th September) Walking Festivals. Over 50 guided walks will take place across the Bailiwick of Guernsey, led by Silver or Gold Accredited Guides to explore stunning scenery, natural surroundings, rich history and much more.
