Condor Ferries reveals #ferryselfie competition winner

Condor Ferries is pleased to announce the winners of its onboard #ferryselfie competition - Amelia and Oliver Pollock. The competition, in aid of Channel Islands Airsearch, challenged passengers travelling on Condor's Cross Channel services to snap their best selfies - and with £1 being donated to the charitable cause for every selfie received, Condor will be donating £250 to Channel Islands Airsearch.

Dozens of entries were received from happy snappy passengers, but it was brother and sister duo Amelia, 10, and Oliver, 8, from Aldborough, Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire, that caught Condor's eye.

The pair took their selfie whilst travelling onboard Condor Rapide in August, from France to Jersey. The creative duo came up with the idea of trying to secure a #ferryselfie with the Captain to make their entry stand out. The pair approached the Condor ferry staff to request a visit to the bridge and were very excited when their request was granted. Amelia and Oliver were lucky enough to meet Captain Giles Wade and capture their winning #ferryselfie.

Amelia and Oliver have won a selection of gadgets worth £500, including a Bang & Olufsen speaker Beoplay A2, Kitvision Splash Action Camera and Milestone Gravitate Activity Tracker, donated by Condor Ferries and gadgets supplier, Kondor.

Commenting on their win, Amelia and Oliver said: "We're totally shocked and amazed - we never thought we’d win! We can't wait to try out our new gadgets!"

Justin Amey, Head of Marketing at Condor Ferries said: “We're delighted to announce Amelia and Oliver as our #ferryselfie competition winners. We challenged our passengers to send us their most original selfies taken onboard our ships as a fun way to also help raise funds for a very worthwhile cause. We had a great response, and we will now be donating £250 to Channel Islands Airsearch. It was great to see our passengers engaging with our competition, and we look forward to running further onboard initiatives in future."

#ferryselfie was run in aid of Channel Islands Airsearch, a voluntary service that provides a rapid response and rescue service in Channel Island waters. The service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing a rapid response search capability in the 4,000 square miles of water surrounding the Channel Islands and the adjacent French Coast. Operated by a volunteer crew, the service is funded by charitable donations along with some governmental assistance.

Captain Brian Nibbs, Trustee, Channel Islands Airsearch added: "Airsearch is delighted to learn that Condor's innovative onboard 'Selfie' competition has raised a further £250 towards our aircraft replacement goal. We have enjoyed the support of Condor these past three years, during which time over £15,000 has been raised by on board collections.

All involved at Airsearch would like to thank Condor for their continuing support. This assists the charity to maintain its 24/7 'on call' availability for our BN Islander aircraft which acts as 'the Lifeboats' Eyes in the Sky', to assist in sea and related searches within the 4,000 sq. miles of water surrounding the Channel Islands and the adjacent French coast."
