Free day trips for kids to see Durrell's new silverback gorilla

Condor Ferries is putting on a special rate for Guernsey children on Sunday 31 July, so they can see Durrell's new silverback gorilla, Badonga, for free.

The promotion coincides with Durrell day, a celebration of a quarter of a century of Durrell's work in Madagascar, which runs on both Saturday and Sunday (30 and 31 July). Children can enter the word famous park for free on both days with an adult entry costing just £5.

Ya Kwanza takes the ferry to France

Ya Kwanza, Durrell Wildlife Park's male silverback gorilla, will be boarding the ferry to St Malo on Wednesday morning as he prepares for his new life in France. 

Yukkie, as he's affectionately known at Durrell, will be transported to France on the Condor Rapide, leaving at 0910 and arriving in St Malo at about 1130.

Media Release Condor Express

Unseasonal and highly changeable weather conditions caused the cancellation of ferry services from St Malo to Guernsey and Poole yesterday evening, Sunday July 17th.

This decision to cancel the Condor Express service to Guernsey and Poole was taken by the ship's master at approximately 2030 hrs upon observation of the weather conditions, updated forecasts and the sea state at that time. This decision was taken for safety reasons as the master did not believe the conditions to be appropriate for the safe transportation of a full passenger and car ferry.

Condor Rapide Media Statement

Ian Milner, Condor Ferries Guernsey Director said, 

"The delays to the service between Jersey and St Malo this weekend were caused by a minor technical problem which was made far worse by very strong winds and the Spring tides. 

"Unfortunately on approach to Jersey, Condor Rapide suffered a manoeuvring problem on one of her four engines. Due to a tidal restriction in Jersey which means that the port has insufficient water to allow our ferries to enter and leave at all states of the tide and because of the very strong and unseasonal high winds, it sailed to Guernsey first."

Condor Ferries and Shaun Rankin to champion Jersey produce at Dorset Seafood Festival

Condor Ferries and Michelin-starred chef, Shaun Rankin are championing Jersey produce at this weekend's Dorset Seafood Festival. 

The festival, which is the highlight of the South of England's culinary calendar, is set to attract over 50,000 people this Saturday and Sunday. The seaside town of Weymouth is playing host to the annual event for the fifth time.

A mix of fast and conventional ferries serves the Channel Islands best

Ian Milner, Condor Ferries' Guernsey Director said, 

"Condor Ferries believes that our fast ferries are very well-suited to the routes and ports in the Channel Islands, particularly when combined with the weather-resilient conventional ship back up, Commodore Clipper. The fleet of three 86m fast ferries which travel at speeds of up to 35 knots are able to operate in the small harbours of St Peter Port and St Helier with comparative ease and enable operating patterns which give customers a choice of services and faster crossing times.
