Media statement 31 Aug 2017

Justin Amey, Head of Marketing, Condor Ferries:

We promote travel to and from the Channel Islands by featuring a mixture of reasons to travel including events and local attractions with price led offers that attract the consumer’s attention.

Like many airlines and other transport providers, our ads often feature a ‘from price’ and presenting our fares this way enables consumers to compare sea travel with their air alternatives as we compete on some of our routes with airlines like Flybe, Aurigny and EasyJet.

When our promotions are on sale we have always paid close attention to make sure there is sufficient space available at the promoted price throughout.

We accept the ruling of the Advertising Standards Authority and have taken steps to improve our archiving of availability data about promotional fares.

We have already provided the ASA with the assurance they requested as a follow up to their ruling ‘not to repeat a "from" price claim unless we are able to substantiate that it is a genuine price available to a reasonable proportion of customers and that significant limitations and qualifications are clearly stated.’

Condor Ferries’ statement following publication of Guernsey Harbourmaster report into incident at La Vallette Bathing Pools

CONDOR Ferries welcomes the publication of the report into the incident at La Vallette Bathing Pools in early July and notes the conclusions reached by the Guernsey Harbourmaster that other vessel movements (both commercial and leisure) are considered to have contributed to the incident.

These findings align closely with those of our internal report and we have cooperated fully with all requests for information from the Guernsey Harbours’ team.

Condor has already implemented all the recommended changes to approach procedures for its High Speed Craft into St Peter Port.

We are obviously very pleased that the youngsters who were affected by the incident are making a speedy recovery and pass on our best wishes to them for the future.

Condor Ferries Sailing Statement

Condor Liberation’s sailings for tomorrow have been cancelled after a fault was identified in the exhaust system on the ship’s starboard main engine.

This would have resulted in Liberation operating from Poole to the Channel Islands on two engines on Wednesday but the weather forecast of predicted wind speeds of up to 40 knots makes it necessary to cancel tomorrow’s sailings. She is being withdrawn from service this evening so engineers can rectify the fault.

Condor’s reservations and port teams are contacting passengers to offer alternative departures which include travel on Commodore Clipper on Wednesday or to and from Poole on alternative dates.

The company has also amended Condor Rapide’s schedule on 02 August to provide a link for all passengers travelling between Jersey and Guernsey.

Condor regrets the disruption and inconvenience the cancellation is causing and confirms passengers are also able to cancel their journey and receive a full refund. The company acts in accordance with passengers’ rights as detailed on its website under the EU Regulation 1177/2010.
